Puss, Bubby, Freddie Gumdrop.
Just a few of the silly nicknames our pets have had over the years. Since I know that everyone else does this too, I’m interested to find out – What are some of yours?
Our Westie Angel was our first dog that we brought home in 1999. It didn’t take long for my husband to dub her Lady Westie Puss. That was shortened to Puss, which she answered to as well as her name. Puss had all kinds of variations like Pussness and The Pusster.
The Pusster
Our Schnauzer Gordon was quickly nicknamed Bubby, for no reason, when he was a tiny puppy. He answers to Gordon, Bubby and all forms of the latter including Bub, Bubster, Bubbilicious…it goes on and on.
Of course, Bub sounds like Love and can be substituted in countless songs – All You Need Is Bub, Crazy Little Thing Called Bub and Bub Will Keep Us Together. If you think that people look at you weird for saying “Chi–Wow-Wow”, try busting out with one of these Bub songs in front of anyone.
Fred was a little different. Early on we dubbed him Freddie Gumdrop, and the Gumdrop part changed seasonally. Freddie Pumpkin, Freddie Cranberry, Freddie Mistletoe…you can see where I’m going with this.
Okay now, your turn. Do you have these crazy little names for your pets too? Please share!

I love them all, Ashley! Especially Prudie-pants.
I love all of the nicknames! My Bella girl has tons too.

Okay, my cat Percy became Percy Purse…I still get a little choked up when I ask my daughter to go get my “Purse” for me. My niece called him “Bowling Pin”, because of his shape when he was sitting upright, and my little sister called him “Fat boy” for much the same reason.
Now our pomeranian, Max gets called Maxamillion, Fur Ball, Maxxy & pretty much anything that comes to mind…he doesn’t mind, he just LOVES the attention.
The cat that we currently have, is listed as “Missy” at the vet, as in “you get out of there, Missy. She just turned 8 yrs. old, on Aug. 16th, and technically…I don’t think she really has an actual name. I’ve always known an animals name, the minute I see it, but with her, it has NEVER happened. I got her at 5 weeks old…so I eventually called her “Little One”, because she was so much smaller then Percy. At different times, depending on her mood, she’s been known as, “Monster”, “Ruby” (as in the kids show, Max & Ruby…becaue our dogs name is Max & Betsy thinks that’s what we should call her), but I usually just end up calling her “Little One” and she and I talk to one another. I can get her to come to me by just nodding my head. And the second I touch her with my hair, she starts to purr…I believe that she thinks I’m her mother. She’s not so “Little” anymore, either…she now looks a bit like a bowling pin, too…apparently, I raise “BIG” cats.
My oldest sister has a cat named “Angel”, of coarse he’s actually EVIL, but he gets called, “Angel Garcia” or “Mr. Knickers” due to his bushy pure white (on an orange cat) hind quarters…it looks like he’s wearing knickers.
At one time, she took in a stray that she believed belonged to her neighbor & it was an outside cat…so, due to the circumstances…she called the cat “Sharon”, because she was SHARIN’ it with the neighbor.
She also had a peek-a-poo that she had named Magic. She was her baby, went with her everywhere…in the family photos, etc. Well, Magic eventually turned to Beek…go figure…!
My dad’s dog, the chihuahua, is named Pepper & I call him pepperoni & Little Pepper dog…his name should be “Barkly” or Bob for “Bob Barker”, though!
Okay, enough of my ramblings on!!!
Holly is hardly ever called by her real name. When she was still a puppy, she would do the funniest but naughtiest things and I said she was like a fart…bad but funny…and another word for fart is foof. So we started calling her Foof, and now 90% of the time we call her (and she answers to) Foofey. At six years old she still does things a puppy would do, like unzipping Grandma’s purse and eating her gum!!
